Podcasts

One podcast I listened to was CNN's Student News. I really like this podcast. I believe it's extremely important for everyone to know and understand what's going on in the United States and the world. This podcast gives students many different important topics that's important to everyone right now. The information it gives is also up-to-date. One fun thing for students it that it has a little quiz at the end that gives a trivia questions about something that is in the news right now.

Here are three podcasts that might interest educators.
Elementary School: The Wild Classroom www.thewildclassroom.com
Middle School: Student News www.cnn.com/studentnews/
High School: Yamaha's Wind Instruments Podcast www.yamaha.com/podcasts/winds/windsrss2.xml

Wikis

Wikis are such a great resource for everyone. WikiHow is one great website you can use in the classroom. Teachers can use it to give step-by-step procedures on how to do anything. And if students forgot how to solve a math problem or play a musical scale or other assignment they can look it up on WikiHow. You can also teach your students how to make their own wiki-page so they will learn how to write out procedures and explain topics.

Here's one I made:

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking can be very useful in the classroom. Teachers can post supplementary material on the website in case students would like to research a subject further and the teacher can provide some direction on the social bookmarking site. It's also useful when students are writing a paper. The teacher can post links to websites relating to the material or to websites that include information about formatting papers and citing them.

Educational Blogs and Pros/Cons

I think that though blogging is still a relatively new tool, its use in education can be very great addition to class. Not only can a class blog help students outside of school keep up with their assignments, students can also use it to discuss recent material if they have any questions. You can also ask students to read blogs to find new ways of thinking about different subjects.

One of the hard parts of having an educational blog is when people abuse it. This is probably one of the biggest cons of having a classroom blog. Teachers can change the setting so they can check the language use and material posted by checking every post or comment before it goes up but that won't help students if they are trying to help each other.

Here are some different types of educational blogs:

Why I'm in Education

When I took music and band in middle and high school, I didn't feel like I learned what I should have learned. I want to make sure my students are taught everything correctly. Also I love to see people learn new things..it makes me as excited as them. And I can't imagine a career for me that does not involve music.
